Sizing Tips and Tricks
- Place and position your thumb correctly inside the brace before fastening any straps
- Always fasten straps starting from the bottom upwards (furthest away from the thumb first)
- If your brace feels tight or uncomfortable, remove the splint and bend until correctly shaped
Can I Wear the Basic Wrist Brace at Night?
Yes. The brace can be safely worn while sleeping, accelerating the recovery process significantly. However, due to different patient needs, we recommend speaking to a medical professional for advice on whether you need to wear this brace overnight.
Why Does Applying My Brace Correctly Matter?
Whilst you may be able to get your brace on quickly or in a way that achieves the same result, how you apply your brace can have a lasting result on your comfort and the position of the muscles and ligaments in your wrist and forearm throughout the day.
How Do I Correctly Apply My Brace?
In order to correctly apply your wrist brace, please follow our simple step-by-step instructions below:
- Place your hand and wrist inside the brace as demonstrated, positioning your thumb until comfortable
- Fasten the straps, beginning at the bottom of the brace
- Attach the remaining straps and adjust the tension depending on your preference
- Check the tension of the brace at the underside by flexing your fingers and testing tension level
What If My Brace Feels Tight?
If you have correctly measured your wrist and have followed our sizing guide above, you should receive a brace that provides supportive but firm compression. In order to cradle the wrist in a position that promotes healing and recovery, your brace must provide a certain level of compression.
What Are the Benefits of Compressive Therapy?
Compressive therapy encourages blood flow to speed up healing whilst also correctly positioning the ligaments, tendons and muscles in the wrist to prevent further injury. A correct level of compression should feel snug and compact.
Can I Change the Shape of My Splint?
You can manipulate and gently bend the shape of the metal splint located underneath the brace in order to correctly support your wrist based on your condition. If you require more shapely support at the wrist, simply remove the metal splint and bend until it is correctly moulded.
How Comfortable Is the Bodymedics Wrist Brace?
Many wrist on the market contain hard metal bars which can poke into your wrist, causing pain or discomfort. The aluminium bar in this brace is much softer and can bend around the shape of your wrist, so you'll barely notice you're wearing it.
How Flexible Is the Basic Wrist Brace?
For an even greater range of movement, the bar can be fully removed. While this may decrease the extent of support, the brace will still facilitate healing by compressing and cushioning your injury.
