Standard Swedish Foot Drop Ankle and Foot Support

After neurological impairment, or as a result of an underlying condition, it is common to experience a reduced ability to lift the foot while walking, causing gait-related difficulties. The Standard Swedish Foot Drop Ankle and Foot Support features a heat-mouldable splint, providing dorsiflexion assistance to help the user develop a smooth and healthy gait.

In addition, this support is easily trimmed and offers a low profile with an open heel to fit into a shoe easily.

What's Included?

  • 1 x Swedish AFO

What Does the Swedish AFO Do?

The Swedish AFO seamlessly attaches to the ankle and slides into any style of shoe to improve walking patterns by limiting the movement of the lower leg. It also works to correct any deformity in muscle alignment when used in conjunction with physical therapy.

Sizing Guide and Information for the Swedish AFO Foot Support

To decide which size of support is right for you, simply measure the length and width of your foot at the longest and widest point, as demonstrated in the image below.

Once you have this measurement, you can match your measurements to the sizing table beneath, as the measurements there indicate the maximum length and width of the AFO base where your fit will sit.

How to measure your foot

Size AFO Base Dimensions (L x W)
Small 242 x 79mm
Medium 276 x 95mm
Large 278 x 95mm
Extra Large 300 x 97mm

How Tall Is the Swedish AFO?

If you're concerned about the height of your AFO and how high up the leg it will run, please view the information below:

  • Small: 26.5cm
  • Medium: 28.5cm
  • Large: 33cm
  • Extra Large: 39cm

How Do I Correctly Attach My AFO?

Please follow the instructions below to see how to quickly and correctly apply your AFO:

  1. Undo the strap at the top of the orthosis
  2. Sit down and place your foot down onto the AFO foot plate
  3. Place the back of your ankle against the padded area at the top of the AFO
  4. Wrap the Velcro strap around the front of the leg, adjusting until tightly fastened

I purchased this for my husband to help with his foot drop problem, as after he waited a number of weeks for an appointment to be measured on the NHS, it was going to be another long wait for the aid to be made. It has given him so much help with his walking without the fear of tripping or falling. We just hope the 'official' NHS one will be as good, but if not, he will continue to use the one we ordered from you!

Due to MS I have used a cloth support for about 8 years. Pleasantly surprise how comfortable this item was and how well it worked.

The Swedish Foot Drop Ankle is too tight in my existing comfortable shoes, and will need me to buy a larger pair, which I have not yet done.

Afo

Really comfortable. Speedy delivery. Only 1 negative is that the afo is quite wide on the heel making getting shoes on quite difficult. Walk so much better with it on.

Foot drop splint

It was a real advantage to be able to mould the splint a little as I have large calf muscles and other splints have not been comfortable.
