How Do the Insoles Offer Personalised Support?

The four multi-density insoles included with the wound shoes offer the wearer personalised aid as they can choose which density of support is most comfortable. The plantar layer system of the shoe is made up of various densities of specialist EVA foam and insole foam.

How Can the Shoes Help with Diabetes?

Research suggests that approximately 10% of diabetics will experience a foot ulcer, which can be incredibly serious as some ulcers can result in amputation. When assessing a foot ulcer, clinicians use a system called the Wagner Diabetic Foot Ulcer Grade System

What is the Wagner Diabetic Foot Ulcer Grade System?

This ulcer grade classification system determines the severity of the ulcer by its depth and whether there is gangrene or osteomyelitis. The grades are:

  • Grade 0: Skin is intact (no open wound)
  • Grade 1: The ulcer is superficial/subcataneous tissue
  • Grade 2: Ulcer extension to bone, tendon or capsule
  • Grade 3: Deep ulcer with abscess or osteomyelitis
  • Grade 4: Localised gangrene in the foot
  • Grade 5: Whole foot gangrene

Where Can the Darco Shoes be Worn?

To ensure that no aspect of your mobility is restricted, the Wound Shoes are suitable to be worn both indoors and outdoors. The product is designed to be worn daily and offers relief during extended periods of wear.

Indications of the Wound Care Shoes

The WCS Wound Care Shoes have been designed to treat ulcerations of Wagner Grade 3 or greater. However, they can also be used for bony prominences, and can provide diabetic care and the long-term treatment of open wounds and ulcerations.

The shoes are ideal for post-operative treatment as they provide precisely-targeted post-operative off-loading. This is done through the four multi-density insoles that can be modified to remove pressure from the plantar aspect of the foot.

Provides Best Possible Care

The WCS Shoes have been designed to ensure that the best possible care and treatment can be received to encourage pain relief and the healing of wounds and ulcerations. The ultra-soft Plastazote lining provides a virtually friction-free contact surface that won't exacerbate existing wounds, crucial to ensuring effective wound healing.

Do the Shoes Fit Over Dressing or Socks?

The Darco Wound Shoes feature adjustable straps so that the wearer can choose how loose or tight the shoes should be worn. The adjustable straps also enable comfortable wear, even with socks or dressing.

Does this Product Come As a Pair?

The Wound Care Shoes are sold in pairs, so they are ideal for treating ulcerations and wounds that affect either one or both feet at the same time. Providing them in a pair will also eliminate discrepancies in shoe height, as well as the associated hip and knee pain that could otherwise occur.

What Sizes are Available?

The Darco WCS Wound Care Shoes are available in a choice of sizes to ensure that the most supportive and beneficial fit can be received. The sizes are based on UK shoe sizes, and these are highlighted in the table below. The size(s) required can be selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

What If My Feet Are Heavily Bandaged?

While the straps of these shoes allow for some degree of adjustment, we recommend choosing one or two sizes up from your regular UK shoe size if your feet are heavily bandaged.

How Should I Clean the Wound Shoes?

To ensure good hygiene, particularly with extended use, the Wound Shoes should be regularly cleaned when soiled. To do so, follow these simple instructions:

  1. Clean with a damp cloth or brush and warm, soapy water
  2. Allow to dry
  3. Repeat for the enclosed insoles

Please note that no strong solvents should be used on the shoes, nor should they be tumble dried.
