Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace
Immediately following injury or surgery to the ankle, a sturdy support is needed to provide stability, prevent twisting and stimulate the recovery process. The Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace is ideal for this purpose, and is anatomically contoured to provide comfortable stabilisation and support to the ankle bone while fitting into most shoes to allow recovery with minimal disruption to everyday life.
This ankle brace is available with a choice of two sizes for either the left or right foot. Select your desired options using the drop-down menus above.
Who Should Use the Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace?
The MalleoLoc Ankle Support is ideal for immediate care and treatment of ankle injuries, and is best used directly after surgery or serious injuries. It's a perfect choice for those who are looking to help their ankle recover while maintaining their normal schedule, as it easily fits into the majority of footwear and prevents lateral twisting motions while remaining comfortable enough for all-day wear.
Can I Use This Ankle Brace During Sports and Exercise?
This ankle brace is for the first stages of recovery, as it is designed for use directly after injury or surgery. It it not recommended for use during sports. Once your ankle has healed enough to restart exercise, we would recommend use of the following braces:
- Support and Stabilisation for Beginning Exercise – Once you feel comfortable that your ankle is ready to begin sports, we would recommend you switch to the Bauerfeind MalleoTrain S Ankle Support. This support provides support and stabilisation of the ankle, while allowing your foot more freedom than the MalleoLoc Brace. It protects against supination (rolling your ankle outwards), which makes it ideal for protecting a recovering ankle during the sudden changes of direction that sport can involve.
- Injury Avoidance Following Recovery – Once your recovery process is complete, a brace that provides compression and light stabilisation can help you regain confidence and avoid re-injury. The Bauerfeind MalleoTrain Ankle Support is ideal for this purpose, made with highly elastic materials that help to support your ligaments while being comfortable enough to wear without any athletic deficit.
Indications of the MalleoLoc Ankle Brace
The MalleoLoc Ankle Brace is suitable for the following indications:
- Capsular ligament strains
- Chronic ligament insufficiency
- Early functional treatment for injuries of the lateral malleolar ligament
- Post-operative rehabilitation
- Severe ankle sprains
How Does the Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace Work?
The MalleoLoc Brace works by stabilising the ankle with medial and lateral plastic shells while protecting it from lateral twisting without restricting natural motion. By stimulating the muscles around the ankle, especially the tibialis anterior, the stabilising and mobilising effects of the brace are heightened.
Which Size Is Right for Me?
The Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace is available in two sizes for the left or right foot. To determine which size is right for you, please measure your heel width as shown in the diagram below and then refer to the sizing table.
Size | Heel Width (cm) |
Size 1 | Under 6cm |
Size 2 | Over 6cm |
Is This Ankle Brace Comfortable?
The Bauerfeind MalleoLoc Ankle Brace fits snugly on the foot and can be worn without difficulty in almost any sturdy shoe. It also has special low-fatigue cushioning to increase wearing comfort of the ankle brace, meaning it's so comfortable you won't want to take it off!
How Much Support Does the MalleoLoc Provide?
This support provides a high degree of support and stabilisation. This allows it to be used immediately after injury or surgery, providing the user with peace of mind that their ankle is fully protected.
Can I Move Normally When Wearing the MalleoLoc?
While this brace prevents ankle rollover and painful twisting movements, it still allows normal heel-to-toe movement of the foot. This means you'll still be able to walk normally with the peace of mind that your ankle is protected from rollover and further injury.
Will This Brace Help to Reduce Swelling?
While this brace provides some compression to your ankle that will help to minimise swelling, the principles of RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) will need to be adhered to for maximum effects. For cold therapy to reduce swelling and pain in your ankle, we recommend the Dura Soft Foot & Ankle Ice Pack Wrap.
Why is This Brace Described as 'Anatomical'?
This brace features an 'anatomical' shape, meaning it is designed to conform to the shape of your foot for maximum support and comfort. It conforms to the outside edge of the foot to counteract supination, making it ideal for providing maximum support after injury.
Is the MalleoLoc Easy to Apply?
This ankle brace is made with a Velcro strap system, making it easy to apply in seconds with minimal disruption to your daily routine. To apply the brace, follow these simple steps (more detailed application instructions with images can be found inside the front cover of the included instruction manual):
- Place your ankle in between the medial and lateral sides of the plastic shell
- Tighten the top strap around your lower calf for maximum stability while maintaining comfort
- Wrap the lower strap around your ankle just above the ankle bone, then feed the strap through the loop and tighten as desired
What Shoes Will it Fit Into?
Since the MalleoLoc Ankle Support is made with an open-heel design, it will be able to fit comfortably into most footwear. It's anatomical design allows it to conform to the contours of the foot, helping to make it as low-profile as possible to avoid affecting the fit and comfort of your shoes.
Is the MalleoLoc Ankle Support Suitable for Foot Drop?
This brace is designed to provide support and stabilisation for post-operative recovery and after twisting injuries, torn ligaments, capsular ligament strains, but is not suitable for foot drop or drop foot. For relief from foot drop, we recommend the Swedish AFO Extra Strong Foot Drop Ankle and Foot Support.
