Abdominal Binder Support
Any surgery of the abdominal region can be traumatic, both physiologically and psychologically, and can take time to recover from. Wearing the unisex Abdominal Binder Support, made of high-quality ventilated elastic for an intimate fit, can be a great way to aid your recovery because it supports your abdomen, helps to maintain abdominal pressure and can even make breathing easier.
What's Included?
How Comfortable Is the Abdominal Binder Support?
This abdominal binder features a wraparound design with simple anterior touch-and-close fastening, fully bound edges and soft padded front panel. It is made of high quality ventilated elastic that ensures excellent breathability and comfort even when you wear the support for longer periods of time.
Who Is This Abdominal Binder Support Suitable For?
The Abdominal Binder Support is 16.5cm (6.5") deep, and offers strong but comfortable support for your lower back and abdomen. It can be used for a range of conditions involving pain and discomfort in the lower back and abdomen, but is especially ideal for the following conditions:
- Diastasis recti
- Post-surgical recovery
- Post-trauma recovery
- Ventral hernia
How Do I Find the Right Size for Me?
The Abdominal Binder Support is available in five different sizes. To find the correct one for you, simply measure the circumference of your waist at the area demonstrated in the image below:
Once you have your measurement, please consult the sizing table beneath to find the correct size brace for you:
Binder Size | Waist Circumference |
Small | 22 - 28" (56 - 71cm) |
Medium | 27 - 33" (68 - 84cm) |
Large | 32 - 38" (81 - 96cm) |
Extra Large | 37 - 43" (94 - 109cm) |
XX-Large | 42 - 48" (107 - 122cm) |
Why Is Measuring My Waist Important?
Selecting a size blindly frequently causes sizing mishaps with back braces. In order to find the perfect size for you, quickly take a tape measure and find the circumference of your waist, as demonstrated above.
Measuring yourself at the area pictured above means you get the absolute best fit for your body shape and size.
How Tight Is the Abdominal Binder Support?
In order to provide adequate compression and support to the abdominal muscles, the Abdominal Binder Support provides a tight but flexible level of support that pulls ligaments and muscles in the abdominal region inward to promote rehabilitation and healing.
Can I Wear a Larger Size Support Binder If I Want?
We would only recommend selecting a larger size if you fall on a sizing boundary after measuring the circumference of your waist. If the sizing guidance above has been followed correctly and your measurement is accurate, there is no reason we would recommend selecting a larger size than required.
Does the Abdominal Binder Support Stretch?
As mentioned above, we always recommend selecting the size that matches the circumference of your waist measurement. The Abdominal Support Binder has a natural flex to it which is designed to accommodate movement and everyday functionality, meaning that if you select a larger size than required, you may find that your brace slips down and loses position frequently.
How Do I Correctly Fit My Abdominal Binder Support?
Fitting your Binder Support couldn't be easier. To correctly position and fit yours, please follow our step-by-step guide below:
- Remove binder from packaging and detach strap
- Wrap the belt around your lower back at the area pictured, making sure the wider section is at the bottom
- Fasten the belt in place using the Velcro fastener located at the front of the brace
- Make any fit or tightness adjustments necessary depending on location of pain or requirements of your condition
Should I Wear My Binder Under My Top or T-Shirt?
We do not recommend wearing your binder underneath a t-shirt or other garment as this can quickly cause irritation. Instead, we recommend wearing a t-shirt or vest underneath and fitting your binder over the top, as demonstrated in the image below.

Is This Abdominal Binder Suitable for Recovery After Bariatric Surgery?
Yes, wearing an abdominal binder can be of great help after enduring a stomach surgery to lose weight. The extra support and compression the binder provides not only helps with discomfort, but can also reduce swelling, help the incision site, and even hold in your hanging skin after surgery.
Can I Use the Abdominal Binder Support Post Hysterectomy?
Yes, this abdominal binder is suitable for post-surgical recovery, including post-hysterectomy recovery. Wearing an abdominal binder may be used to speed up the recovery process, as it:

Is the Abdominal Binder Support Suitable for Postpartum Recovery?
The Abdominal Binder Support can be worn after giving birth, including a C-section. If, however, you're trying to find the perfect post-pregnancy belly belt, we strongly recommend visiting our Belly Bandit range, in particular the Belly Bandit Original Post-Pregnancy Belly Belt. These products have been designed specifically to help women during and after pregnancy, and are more suited to your specific needs.
How Can an Abdominal Binder Help with Diastasis Recti?
Once the connective tissue gets stretched out, it can be difficult to rebuild your core strength and bring your muscles back together. Wearing an abdominal binder aids in holding the tissue, ligaments and bones in place to stabilise the pelvis. This allows you to begin exercising earlier in the recovery stage.
Can I Exercise with the Abdominal Binder?
Light exercise is of course possible with the Abdominal Binder, however, we would strongly advise contacting your consultant to work out a feasible plan. Medical problems like hernias can be anatagonised by certain exercises, and your consultant will know the best route for you.
Can I Wear the Abdominal Binder Support During Pregnancy?
No, we would advise against using the Abdominal Binder Support during pregnancy. If you're looking for a belly belt that is suitable as support during and after pregnancy, we recommend the Belly Bandit 2-in-1 Post-Pregnancy Belly Belt, or the Belly Bandit Upsie Belly Belt for support during pregnancy.
Can I Wash the Abdominal Binder Support?
The abdominal binder is made predominantly from ventilated elastic, and we don't recommend machine washing it. You can, however, hand wash the binder with mild detergent in cold water, and hang it to dry.
