High Functionality and Compatibility

While alternative hearing amplifiers may be more portable, they lack in the SMARTO's power and compatibility. It can pair to smartphones and other smart devices via Bluetooth to stream any audio to boost sound from phone calls, music, podcasts, etc. The SMARTO can even be connected to a smart TV, so you can hear your favourite shows with ease! Additionally, the SMARTO can be used with any wired headphones, meaning you can choose which best fit your ears or head, and is even compatible with noise-cancelling headphones.

Directional Microphones

The SMARTO handheld hearing amplifier features a directional microphone built into the front of the device, making it capable of zeroing in on sound from whichever direction you point it in. With the press of one button, you can hone which sounds you want amplified and do away with one of the largest issues almost all other hearing amplifiers are marred by.

Should I Purchase a Hearing Amplifier?

Since hearing amplifiers aren't the same as hearing aids, they will work best for people who don't have significant hearing loss. It's best to avoid them if you are worried you have a loss of hearing, or if you've been already diagnosed by a GP.

Hearing amplifiers amplify all sound based on what volume you set the device to, not just the volumes or frequencies you might be having difficulty hearing (which is what hearing aids do). If you have hearing loss, amplifiers can be further detrimental to your hearing.

Please Note: If you are unsure whether or not a hearing amplifier is suitable for your needs, please contact a GP or medical professional.

A very good aid for spatial hearing loss
Rating:
09 April 2024  |

I have spatial hearing loss (a very unique form of brain deafness even in light noise) and got the first BeHear headset 6 years ago. Regular hearing aids do not work as we hear everything at the same time, at the same sound level so just putting up the volume doesn't do anything, except make it louder so traditional hearing aids do not work for us.

The first BeHear headset really helped, but the right ear had stopped working recently after getting used to death so got the smarto as a replacement. And WOW!

The smarto does everything my first headset does, but waaaaay better. I find it very simple and easy to use, which helps because, whilst I am youngish, I'm not tech savvy. The app is also easy to use as well, but I have used that before so was used to it already.

My hearing loss is a hearing brain problem rather than an ear problem so my audiogram can change daily (hourly even!) and the app lets me upload a new audiogram whenever I need to and applies it to the smarto so I get the correct levels for the hearing I need.

I can also put the smarto on forward mode and point it at, say my husband, and hear him talk, even outside in noise. I couldn't do that before, even with the headset. I look like Lady One Question from Banzai but I don't care . I gave hubby the device in a pub recently when we went out and it was the first time in years I could hear him and he didn't have to repeat himself. It's made that much of a difference its amazing.

The background noise reduction took me by surprise at how good it is even over my old headset. If you have spatial hearing loss, I thoroughly recommend this, it's mind-blowing. You'll hear in ways you thought you'd never hear.

The choice of headset provided with the smarto was very much appreciated. The smarto comes with an over the ear 80s type headset or, if you are youngish like me, in the ear headphones. I appreciated the choice. The smarto will also work with any headphone you choose, just not bluetooth, as they have to be line-in to the device.

I'm still trying the smarto outside but so far it's been mostly good stuff. I can discern when a car is coming (I normally can't) so good for road safety and I can hear hubby again and even better this time. I've even tried pointing it at him when on the bus and 6ft away. It still mostly works!

The app has a tinnitus masker for those that suffer with that condition.

I find the omni on the smarto isn't that great if the speaker is behind you or talks to you facing away from you. This is when you are wearing it, not on a table and something to be aware of. There are only two mic's in the smarto with a third in the headphones so the smarto only really picks up sound around you from the front and sides. I think putting the smarto on Omni on a table would be better, if you just need the volume turned up. To remedy this, hubby and I have tried having the smarto clipped on to hubby's jumper so I could hear him better when talking behind me and it does work better that way.

Most importantly, because I'm not trying hard to do all the hearing I'm less brain tired after being outside. I also use the smarto to watch TV with if there aren't any subtitles and it's a bad hearing brain day. Hubby is also very much less upset at having to repeat himself and getting I told I can't hear him all the time.

If you too have spatial hearing loss, or any hearing loss, I can 100% recommend the smarto for results, ease of use etc and I also recommend to buy it from here. It's very hard to find good hearing aids for spatial hearing loss and yet it's one of the most common hearing loss types and affects all ages.

Health and Care were very quick in processing the order and I did the VAT relief form at point of ordering. And I want to say thank you to them here for carrying the smarto for people like me, even if they had never heard of spatial hearing loss. It actually does mean a lot that we are not totally forgotten.
