Locomotor Patient Handling Sling

The Locomotor Patient Handling Sling is a comfortable padded handling sling designed for use by one or two nurses/carers during a patient transfer. This sling is padded for patient comfort and will mould to the patient’s shape thus improving comfort and reducing the likelihood of slipping.

Why Use a Locomotor Patient Handling Sling Instead of Your Hands?

Using a patient handling sling allows manual transfers to be conducted without grabbing the patient, which can cause bruising, and it allows nurses/carers to maintain good posture. Using the sling also improves grip, reducing the difficulty associated with moving a patient’s legs and making the transfer more comfortable for the patient themselves.

How Can the Locomotor Patient Handling Sling Be Used?

The two handhold options give the nurse/carer a choice of grip depending on the size and body shape of the patient.

• Sitting to standing - The sling is placed around the patient’s lower back and used by one or two nurses/carers to help the patient to a standing position. The sling should only be used this way if the patient can weight-bear.
• Leg transfers - The sling has the flexibility to be used under the patient's lower leg in order to move legs onto a bed, footstool or for the purpose of cleaning or dressing.

• Washes up to 71°C if required – for best longevity use a standard 40°C colour wash cycle
• The lining may be wiped with a suitable disinfectant

• Do not use the sling against sharp objects, which may cause the sling to rip
