Ideal for use at home or at work, this SAD lamp ensures even light distribution to reduce melatonin and produce serotonin in your body that would usually be generated by sunlight. The use of this lamp is a great way to kick winter depression, improve sleep, and improve energy levels.

Why Use a Daylight Therapy Lamp?

During the autumn and winter months, the hours of daylight become shorter, and the cold weather means people stay inside a lot more. Because of this, the body is no longer exposed to the ideal amounts of sunlight needed to naturally produce serotonin, and halt the production of melatonin.

  • Melatonin: the "sleep hormone". Melatonin is a hormone produced from melanin, which is produced in the skin through exposure to sunlight. Melatonin is passed through the blood in the dark, and it tells our body when it's time to sleep. Without exposure to sunlight, our body doesn't know when to stop passing melatonin through our blood, resulting in us being tired throughout the day.
  • Serotonin: the "happy hormone". Serotonin is linked to boosting your mood and helping you feel calm and focused - and it's increased when you go out in the sun. 

Using the SAD Lamp helps our body regulate the hormones needed to stay happy and energized during the winter months by creating a suitable replacement for natural sunlight. 

Who Can Use the TL35 SAD Light?

How Do I Use the SAD Lamp?

Simply switch the lamp on, choose your desired colour temperature, and position yourself at a distance of between 13cm and 35cm from the light. Regularly look into the light for a short period of time every so often throughout the time you are using it, and continue to go about your day-to-day activities such as reading, writing, making phone calls, etc. 

Please note: do not look directly into the light for the entire treatment time, as this can cause over-stimulation to the retina. 

What Are the Different Colour Temperature Settings?

The Beurer SAD Lamp comes with three colour temperature settings:

  • Therapy (6,500K): Ideal for use in the middle of the day when the sun would be strongest.
  • Active (4,300K): Ideal for use first thing in the morning to get you energised, enabling concentration.
  • Relax (3,000K):  Ideal for use to wind down in the evening.

What Time of Day Should I Use the SAD Lamp?

We recommend you use the Beurer SAD Lamp for 2 hours per day, ideally between the hours of 6am and 8pm. For help with low energy in the morning, we recommend using the lamp as soon as you wake up in order to brighten your mood for the day. It's best to start with shorter times, and then gradually increase the amount of time you use the lamp over the course of a week.

The treatment will be most effective after it has been done for seven days in a row.

Delivery is free of charge on all items at Health and Care when delivered to a mainland UK address. Your order is usually dispatched by Royal Mail or better and is normally dispatched the same day when ordered before 2.00pm, Monday to Friday. For orders placed outside of this timeframe, they should be dispatched on the next working day.
