Aircast Sprained Ankle Recovery Care Kit

The Aircast Sprained Ankle Recovery Care Kit helps you treat your sprained ankle and recover from your ankle sprain as quickly as possible. The Aircast Ankle Sprain Recovery Kit contains several items including the Aircast Air Stirrup. This brace will help protect your ankle from further ankle injury and enable you to walk during recovery. In addition, this brace will pump swelling out of your ankle when you walk through the patented Duplex aircell system.

The Ankle Sprain Recovery Care Kit includes the following items to help you manage and recover from your sprained ankle:

• Aircast Air Stirrup - provides support alongside protecting the ankle and reducing swelling;
• Ankle Wrap - this works with the Air Stirrup to control swelling;
• Cold Pack - this reduces pain caused by and associated with a sprained ankle;
• Large Elastic Exercise Band - this helps strengthen your ankle after a sprain with exercises;
• DVD - this instructional DVD provides information on the kit and ankle exercises to help you when recovering from a sprained ankle;
• Instructional Booklet - this provides a point of reference for and information on the kit and the ankle sprain recovery exercises.

Ankle Sprain Treatment Steps

Step 1

The cold pack supplied in the ankle sprain recovery kit is used to reduce pain following the ankle sprain. This is placed on the ankle on top of a moist cloth for cold treatment for 15 minutes at a time. It is also advisible to elevate the foot while delivering cold treamtment at this stage of the ankle sprain.

Step 2

Use the ankle wrap to reduce swelling for the first few days of the sprain. The wrap is wound around the foot and ankle and is rewrapped several times a day to control swelling.

Step 3

As it can take several months for your ankle to heal completely, this is the stage that the Aircast Air Stirrup should be worn. Wear the brace for the first 2 to 3 weeks whenever you are putting weight on your injured foot. Also, wear the brace during activities after this until the ankle sprain is fully healed.

Step 4

It may take some time to bend your ankle so that when seated, you are able to bend your knee so that your foot is flat on the floor directly beneath your knee. However, it is critical for your recovery. Your injured ankle must be capable of achieving this position, with the ankle brace on, before standing or walking on your ankle.

Step 5

Walking is the next step in the treatment and recovery process. Protected movement (moving your ankle with the brace on) will help your ankle become healthy and strong. The Aircast Air Stirrup will protect your ankle and help reduce swelling as you walk.

Step 6

The final step is exercise. You will have to help your ankle regain its strength following an ankle sprain with exercise. The simple exercises contained on the DVD and included in the instructional booklet can be performed in your home or office. When you begin performing the exercises, you may feel soreness around the ankle. This is completely normal. Listen to your body and progress from one exercise to the next as your ankle will allow. If the pain becomes excessive and doesn't subside with rest and ice, contact your physician immediately.
