Ottobock GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis AFO
Standard ankle foot orthoses (AFOs) are great for foot drop, however many users often find them too bulky or cumbersome to wear on a day-to-day basis. The Ottobock GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis AFO has been developed as an entry-level option for individuals looking for a comfortable solution that would hold the foot in a neutral position without the bulk of a standard AFO.
What's Included?
Indications of the Ottobock GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis
The Ottobock GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis is designed to relieve symptoms of dorsiflexor weakness or foot drop, regardless of what has caused the condition. The following conditions most commonly lead to developing dorsiflexor weakness or foot drop:
- Dementia
- Fatigue syndrome
- Multiple sclerosis
- Neuromuscular atrophy
- Parkinson's disease
- Peroneal palsy
- Problems with balance
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injuries
Please note that the Ottobock GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis is not suitable if you are experiencing any of the following conditions: lower leg spasticity, moderate to severe oedema, leg ulcers, foot deformities, instability of the ankle joint in M/L direction, or instability of the ankle joint in A/P and M/L directions.

- High user acceptance due to soft material and easy handling
- Supplied in a universal size that should fit most users
- Same brace can be used for both the left and the right foot
- Can be worn with or without shoes, regardless of heel height
- Increases awareness of the uncovered heel and forefoot
- Pads and straps are easily changed and washed for improved hygiene
How Does the GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis Help?
Spring filaments in the GoOn AFO enable the lifting force of dorsiflexion to be adjusted as needed. The AFO guides and holds the foot in a torsionally stable manner, unlike simpler systems that use elastic bands which don't have this direct contact with the foot.
To ensure comfort, a viscoelastic cushion minimises pressure on the arch of the foot. A front support, attached to the foot, prevents the AFO from migrating.
The GoOn AFO offers limited control when your foot points away from your leg and supports the foot when moving upwards
Sizing Information for the GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis AFO
The Ottobock GoOn AFO is available in a single size that is designed to fit all users. The GoOn AFO uses a "one size fits most" design thanks to the use of three intuitively positioned Velcro straps that can be adjusted based on your condition and your tension and tightness requirements.
How To Correctly Apply Your Ottobock GoOn AFO Brace
In order to ensure a perfect fit every time, we recommend following our easy to follow, step-by-step fitting guide below:
- Place the orthosis against the foot, ensuring the short side is located at the top of the foot
- Fasten the foot strap to the orthosis and pass the foot strap around the foot
- Attach the foot strap to the attachment point and then close the foot strap
- Move the foot slightly towards the back. This will cause the orthosis to move slightly up the leg
- Fasten the calf strap to the medial or lateral side
- Pass the calf strap around the ankle and fasten it
Who Can Use the GoOn AFO?
The GoOn is ideal as an entry-level device for individuals with mild conditions affecting the dorsiflexor musculature who often find conventional AFOs too bulky. The Ottobock GoOn will help keep your foot in a neutral position to avoid tripping, and support your foot when your step forward.
What Shoes Can I Wear with the GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis?
Thanks to the dorsal spring, the GoOn AFO never comes into contact with the soles of shoes. This means that it can be worn comfortably and easily with almost any lace-up shoes without needing to adapt to the different shoes.
It can also be worn with shoes of different heel types, and even without shoes. This gives you an incredible level of flexibility in shoe choice while ensuring you enjoy the same great support every time.
The GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis AFO is suitable for most shoes
Can I Wear This Support with Boots?
Yes, this versatile support is suitable for use with all types of boots, including work and fashion boots. The design is highly forgiving, and boots will provide plenty of space for a comfortable fit.
Will the Ottobock GoOn AFO Affect My Regular Shoe Size?
As this AFO is designed for entry-level users, it is extremely unobtrusive and should not affect the shoe size you wear. There could, however, be some difficulties with particularly tight shoes, as a little room is needed to accommodate the foot cuff.
The GoOn AFO is very unobtrusive and discreet
How Do I Adjust the Torsion on the Ottobock GoOn?
The Ottobock GoOn AFO is fitted to your foot and ankle via comfortable straps and secured with Velcro style hook-and-loop fasteners. The torsion of the GoOn can be adjusted by your orthotist or physiotherapist according to your requirements.
How Do I Find the Right Size for Me?
The Ottobock GoOn is highly adjustable and designed to comfortably fit most feet. This is why it is supplied in a universal size that is suitable for both the left and the right foot, so you don't have to worry about finding the right fit for you.
Is the GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis Suitable for People Recovering from a Stroke?
The GoOn AFO can be used for dorsiflexor weakness and foot drop resulting from a stroke. We do, however, recommend you seek advice from your GP or medical professional if you have any specific questions about your recovery process.
Can I Drive with the GoOn AFO?
This Ankle Foot Orthosis has been designed for individuals who are not accustomed to wearing traditional AFOs, as they tend to find them too bulky. The slim, comfortable design of the GoOn AFO makes it suitable for most shoes, and should allow you to move your foot as naturally as possible. We are, however, unable to advise what driving specifically is like with this AFO.
Can the GoOn AFO Be Worn With Socks?
The GoOn AFO can be worn with a sock over the top or with a sock underneath depending on your preference.
Can I Wash the GoOn Ankle Foot Orthosis?
The pads and straps of the orthosis can easily be changed and hand-washed. This improves the hygiene and longevity of the AFO.
