Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler Saver Pack

Suffering from trauma to the knee or undergoing surgery on the knee can cause a great deal of discomfort and swelling, which in turn tends to make walking difficult. The Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler Saver Pack uses the therapeutic benefits of controlled cold compression to minimise swelling and reduce pain, while its anatomical shape ensures to completely cover the affected area and therefore aid healing.

Please note: this model of the Aircast Cryo/Cuff is solely powered by gravity, as opposed to the Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Automatic Cold Therapy IC Cooler Saver Pack, which has a motor that connects to mains power. We've also written a handy blog on the differences between the two.

What's Included in This Saver Pack?

The Aircast Saver Pack includes:

  • 1 x Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff
  • 1 x Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler: includes tube assembly and insulation disk

Key Features

  • Provides cold compression to the knee
  • Measured compression for patient comfort
  • Cooler uses a simple, gravity-fed system
  • Uninterrupted treatment when used with the standard Aircast Cooler
  • Cost-effective solution for purchasing the cuff and cooler
  • Anatomically designed for complete coverage of the area
  • Provides six to eight hours of cryotherapy
  • Designed to be as safe and easy to use as possible

What Are the Benefits of Using Cryotherapy to Treat Injury?

Using cryotherapy to treat injury can produce a number of benefits. These include:

  • Immediate pain relief
  • Improves circulation throughout affected area
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation
  • Better joint mobility
  • Reduces fatigue
  • Speeds up recovery

What Conditions Will This Pack Help With?

Cold therapy relieves pain and swelling in a number of conditions. This includes the following:

  • Acute sprains
  • Prehabilitation - exercise therapy before surgery
  • Post-operative recovery
  • Knee replacements
  • Rehabilitation
  • Trauma

Where Can I Use the Cryo/Cuff Cooler Pack?

The Cryo/Cuff and Cooler Pack is designed for use on the knee. This can include use on and around the knee to ease pain and discomfort.

Does the Cuff Cover the Whole Knee Area?

The cuff is anatomically designed to cover the entire front-side of the knee, both above and below the patella, providing maximum cryotherapy to that area.

What Size Cuff Should I Choose?

The Aircast Knee Cryo/Cuff is available in three different sizes according to the circumference of your thigh. To find out which size you require, please measure the circumference of your thigh six inches above the centre point of your kneecap and consult the diagram below. If your size falls between two bands, please take into consideration potential swelling of the knee and surrounding tissue.

Knee Measurement Image

Size Knee Circumference
Small 25 - 48cm
Medium 45 - 59cm
Large 50 - 79cm

How Do I Use the Cuff?

For information on how to use the cuff, simply follow the steps below:

Step One: Prepare the Cooler

Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top. Close the lid of the cooler, lightly shake the ice around and allow up to five minutes for the water to cool.

Step Two: Apply the Cuff

Rest the cuff on the front of the knee and secure using the top strap. Flex the knee slightly and position the cuff so that the knee cap is exposed through the opening and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).

Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff

Step Three: Fill the Cuff

Connect the blue tube to the cuff. If you are using the standard Aircast Cold Therapy Cooler, open the air vent located on the top of the cooler lid and raise the cooler no more than fifteen inches above the cuff. (See figure 2).

Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff

Hold the cooler in this position for about thirty seconds or until the cuff is full. Close the air vent on the cooler lid and disconnect the cuff from the cooler by the pressing the metal tab on the quick disconnect valve.

Step Four: Rechill the Water

Reconnect the blue tube to the cuff and raise the cuff above the cooler. This will allow for the water to drain from the cuff back into the cooler. Allow up to two minutes for the water to rechill before repeating the filling process.

For more information about how to use the cuff, see the manual below:

Learn More About the Cryo/Cuff and Cooler

For more information and a helpful visual guide, we've put together this video on how to use the Aircast Cry/Cuff, along with answers to some frequently asked questions.

How Long Can I Use the Cuff For?

You can use the cuff for up to two hours per session but it is recommended that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between uses.

Can I Apply the Cuff Directly onto My Skin?

To avoid risk of skin burn, it is vital that you wrap the skin of the target area with a cloth or bandage or something similar, before using the cuff.

How Do I Clean the Cuff?

To keep your Cryo/Cuff clean, simply wash the cuff with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. This process can also be used to clean the blue tube and cooler units also.

Perfect for Knee Replacement Recovery

In the first few weeks following knee replacement surgery and even for a long time after that, pain and swelling can become truly intense. Icing the knees regularly is recommended by doctors to help counteract these symptoms, usually around 3-4 times per day for the first 2-3 weeks.

This cooling system is perfect for this post-operation period because of its hands-free convenience, and the continuous circulation of cold water means no time is wasted waiting for the cuff to freeze.

Please note that this device can be cold enough to cause serious injuries. Read and understand all warnings and instructions for use before using the device.

This was recommended to me by someone in my physio class. It much easier than constantly restocking ice packs.

This is perfect following surgery. I had total knee replacement 2 weeks ago and use it every day. The hospital used a similar machine. The operation causes massive swelling and pain and the cuff gives respite and healing.

Great product , iced water keeps really cold for hours , nice and easy to use, because knee cuff is detachable from reservoir means complete freedom of mobility,
and the new metal clip is an excellent development as it doesn’t wear out if you have to have two new knees, the product was still useable with the plastic quick release clip but wore out after constant clipping on and off , now , metal clip , no problems 👍

Absolutely vital in reducing the swelling and inflammation after knee replacement surgery. The barrel keeps the water cold for over 12 hours. (Depending on how much ice you use). Plastics are of good quality. The cuff is showing signs sof wear after 2 weeks of daily use. The odd water drop from the inlet tube. There is a small hole in the water cuff but does not affect its operation. Overall a well engineered product. Gravity feed works well - no need for electric pump version. Expensive at £98 for the bundle but well worth it.

My daughter has just had ACL surgery and this has helped keep the swelling to a minimum. It is fantastic. And the best priced one we found.

Found the cuff a bit too big. I did measure myself 2x but could have done with a smaller size

I bought this to aid with icing after knee surgery on my ACL and MCL, having been recommended it. It's a good product and the 'sleeves' are true to size. I am an athletic built woman and purchased a size small. I was worried it would be too small but even without the muscle wastage, I have plenty of space. Definitely measure your thigh before buying.
I've given the product 4 stars as whilst it is good, the pricing is ridiculous. £100 for a plastic container, a pipe and a knee pack is absurd. In hind site, I'd suggest spending the little bit extra for the automatic pump version of this. If you look elsewhere, you can get more sophisticated versions for a bit more and can also rent the very high tech versions (compression and ice) - I'd recommend this. Ultimately, you don't need this product long term so spending a bit more for 1 or 2 months post op is a good idea.
