Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler Saver Pack
Suffering from trauma to the knee or undergoing surgery on the knee can cause a great deal of discomfort and swelling, which in turn tends to make walking difficult. The Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff Cooler Saver Pack uses the therapeutic benefits of controlled cold compression to minimise swelling and reduce pain, while its anatomical shape ensures to completely cover the affected area and therefore aid healing.
Please note: this model of the Aircast Cryo/Cuff is solely powered by gravity, as opposed to the Aircast Knee Cold Therapy Cryo/Cuff with Automatic Cold Therapy IC Cooler Saver Pack, which has a motor that connects to mains power. We've also written a handy blog on the differences between the two.

Where Can I Use the Cryo/Cuff Cooler Pack?
The Cryo/Cuff and Cooler Pack is designed for use on the knee. This can include use on and around the knee to ease pain and discomfort.
Does the Cuff Cover the Whole Knee Area?
The cuff is anatomically designed to cover the entire front-side of the knee, both above and below the patella, providing maximum cryotherapy to that area.
What Size Cuff Should I Choose?
The Aircast Knee Cryo/Cuff is available in three different sizes according to the circumference of your thigh. To find out which size you require, please measure the circumference of your thigh six inches above the centre point of your kneecap and consult the diagram below. If your size falls between two bands, please take into consideration potential swelling of the knee and surrounding tissue.
Size | Knee Circumference |
Small | 25 - 48cm |
Medium | 45 - 59cm |
Large | 50 - 79cm |
How Do I Use the Cuff?
For information on how to use the cuff, simply follow the steps below:
Step One: Prepare the Cooler
Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top. Close the lid of the cooler, lightly shake the ice around and allow up to five minutes for the water to cool.
Step Two: Apply the Cuff
Rest the cuff on the front of the knee and secure using the top strap. Flex the knee slightly and position the cuff so that the knee cap is exposed through the opening and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).
Step Three: Fill the Cuff
Connect the blue tube to the cuff. If you are using the standard Aircast Cold Therapy Cooler, open the air vent located on the top of the cooler lid and raise the cooler no more than fifteen inches above the cuff. (See figure 2).
Hold the cooler in this position for about thirty seconds or until the cuff is full. Close the air vent on the cooler lid and disconnect the cuff from the cooler by the pressing the metal tab on the quick disconnect valve.
Step Four: Rechill the Water
Reconnect the blue tube to the cuff and raise the cuff above the cooler. This will allow for the water to drain from the cuff back into the cooler. Allow up to two minutes for the water to rechill before repeating the filling process.

How Long Can I Use the Cuff For?
You can use the cuff for up to two hours per session but it is recommended that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between uses.
Can I Apply the Cuff Directly onto My Skin?
To avoid risk of skin burn, it is vital that you wrap the skin of the target area with a cloth or bandage or something similar, before using the cuff.
How Do I Clean the Cuff?
To keep your Cryo/Cuff clean, simply wash the cuff with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. This process can also be used to clean the blue tube and cooler units also.
Perfect for Knee Replacement Recovery
In the first few weeks following knee replacement surgery and even for a long time after that, pain and swelling can become truly intense. Icing the knees regularly is recommended by doctors to help counteract these symptoms, usually around 3-4 times per day for the first 2-3 weeks.
This cooling system is perfect for this post-operation period because of its hands-free convenience, and the continuous circulation of cold water means no time is wasted waiting for the cuff to freeze.
Please note that this device can be cold enough to cause serious injuries. Read and understand all warnings and instructions for use before using the device.
