What Size Cuff Should I Choose?

The Aircast Knee Cryo/Cuff is available in three different sizes according to the circumference of your thigh. To find out which size you require, please measure the circumference of your thigh six inches above the centre point of your kneecap and consult the diagram below. If your size falls between two bands, please take into consideration potential swelling of the knee and surrounding tissue.

Size Measurement
Small 25 - 48cm
Medium 48 - 59cm
Large 59 - 79cm

Compresses the Area

When used alongside one of the Aircast coolers, the Aircast Knee Cuff compresses the area to reduce pain. The cuff is anatomically designed to cover the entire affected area so you get treatment where you need it most.

Indications for the Aircast Knee Cuff

The Aircast Knee Cryo/Cuff can be used for a wide range of conditions and injuries. This includes the following conditions:

  • Knee replacement
  • Prehabilitation - exercise therapy before surgery
  • Post-injury pain
  • Post-operative pain
  • Rehabilitation
  • Sporting injury
  • Trauma

Which Cooler Unit Should I Choose?

The Aircast Cryo/Cuff system can be used with either one of two cooler units depending on your needs. Both cooler units offer six to eight hours of gravity-fed compression therapy, but differ in the amount of compression therapy they can provide. The two cooler units are:

How Do I Use the Cuff?

For information on how to use the cuff, simply follow the steps below:

Step One: Prepare the Cooler

Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top. Close the lid of the cooler and allow up to five minutes for the water to cool.

Step Two: Apply the Cuff

Rest the cuff on the front of the knee and secure using the top strap. Flex the knee slightly and position the cuff so that the knee cap is exposed through the opening and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).

Step Three: Fill the Cuff

Connect the blue tube to the cuff. If you are using the standard Aircast Cold Therapy Cooler, open the air vent located on the top of the cooler lid and raise the cooler no more than fifteen inches above the cuff. (See figure 2).

Hold the cooler in this position for about thirty seconds or until the cuff is full. Close the air vent on the cooler lid and disconnect the cuff from the cooler by the pressing the metal tab on the quick disconnect valve.

Step Four: Rechill the Water

Reconnect the blue tube to the cuff and raise the cuff above the cooler. This will allow for the water to drain from the cuff back into the cooler. Allow up to two minutes for the water to rechill before repeating the filling process.

For more information about how to use the cuff, see the manual below:

How Long Can I Use the Cuff For?

You can use the cuff for up to two hours per session but it is recommended that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between uses.

Can I Apply the Cuff Directly onto My Skin?

To avoid risk of skin burn, it is vital that you wrap the skin of the target area with a cloth or bandage or something similar, before using the cuff.

Is There Supposed to be a Small Hole in the Knee Cuff?

You may have noticed a small hole in the Knee Cuff (as seen below) but not to worry, this is by design. It prevents the build-up of excess condensation, which helps maintain hygiene in the cuff.

How Do I Clean the Cuff?

To keep your Cryo/Cuff clean, simply wash the cuff with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. This process can also be used to clean the blue tube and cooler units also.

Save on the Cooler and Cuff

Please note that this cuff can be purchased with the cooler unit in a saver pack. Options include either the standard Aircast Knee Cryo Cuff with Gravity Cooler Saver Pack or the automatic Aircast Knee Cryo Cuff with Automatic Cold Therapy IC Cooler Saver Pack.

This was bought along with the compression bucket to bring down swelling following a knee replacement

It is very effective. Providing you use large cubes of ice in the bucket the cuff stays cold enough that you only need to fill once a day with water and ice

It’s simple to use

As with the ankle cuff the knee cuff does the job. Reducing pain and swelling. Very easy to set up and operate. Velcro fitting to enable you to fit and remove the cuff could be more substantial. You have to take care.

Bought an air cast calf to replace an old damaged one and the whole experience couldn’t have gone any easier from start to finish.
Very easy to use the site. The cuff works perfectly and is of top quality, I wouldn’t hesitate to order here again.

Cryo Cuff - Knee
Rating:
06 June 2022  |

Was expecting a complete round the knee cuff, allowing ice cold water to the back of the knee. The cuff concentrates purely on around the knee cap and upper thigh.

Hi Stephen,

Many thanks for leaving a review with us. We are sorry to hear you're not 100% satisfied with your purchase. The Aircast Cryo Cuff Knee Brace is indeed designed to target the front of the knee above, below and on either side of the patella. In order to remain in place and provide the high level of cold-based therapy that it does, the Cryo Cuff uses straps that attach at the back of the knee, meaning this area does not receive the same level of contact-cold as the front does.

If you are looking to also target the back of the joint, we recommend laying applying the Cryo Cuff unit with your leg layed out flat and a cool pack underneath. This way, your entire knee can benefit from the wonders of contact-cold therapy.

We hope this information proves helpful and we're sorry again that this product has not worked out perfectly for you.

Kind regards,

Seth at Health and Care
