Bedford Double Finger Splint (Pack of 5 Splints)
After a mild injury to the finger, splinting the injured finger together with an adjacent finger is an excellent way to help it heal. The Bedford Double Finger Splint (Pack of 5 Splints) does just this, using its elastic material to bind the two fingers together to provide support without completely immobilising the finger, allowing you to recover without losing the use of your hand.
How Does the Bedford Double Finger Splint Work?
The double stalls of the Bedford Double Finger Splint support both the PIP (Proximal Interphalangeal) and DIP (Distal Interphalangeal) joints, making it an excellent all-round double finger support that can aid in the recovery of a wide range of conditions. It provides support without completely immobilising your fingers, allowing you to retain the use of your hand while you recover.
What Injuries is This Finger Splint For?
This finger splint is suitable for a wide range of mild finger injuries, and provides mild compression and support. This includes:
- Swelling
- Inflammation
- Arthritis
- Tendonitis
- Sprains
- Injuries to the DIP joint
- Injuries to the PIP joint
Which Size is Right for Me?
The Bedford Double Finger Splint is available in five sizes based on the width of each individual finger opening and total length. To find which size you require, measure the circumference of your finger and halve this measurement, this will give you the Width. Small to Extra Large sizes feature the same width, as the total length of the finger splint is most important for these sizes to ensure it fits your intended finger.
Size | Length (cm) | Finger Width (cm) |
XX-Small | 4.5cm | 1.5cm |
Extra Small | 5cm | 2cm |
Small | 5.5cm | 3cm |
Medium | 6.5cm | 3cm |
Large | 7.5cm | 3cm |
Extra Large | 8cm | 3cm |
Which Parts of the Finger Does This Splint Support?
The Bedford Double Finger Splint is designed to provide support to the two joints on the end of your fingers known as the DIP (labelled blue below) and PIP (labelled yellow below) joints. These joints will be bound together and movement will be limited, helping the recovery process take place while reducing the risk of injury aggravation.
Which Fingers is This Support Suitable For?
The Bedford Double Finger Splint is available in a range of sizes, and so can be used with any two adjacent fingers. This makes it a suitable little finger splint, while also being suitable for all areas of the hand, excluding the thumb.
Can I Use This As a Thumb Splint?
No, the Bedford Finger Splint is not suitable for use as a thumb splint, but is suitable for all other fingers on the hand. To support your thumb, you may require a more robust and purpose-built splint such as the BeneCare CMC Comfort Thumb Splint.
Is This Support Trimmable?
While it is important to choose the right size for you to ensure the best fit, this splint can be trimmed down if you find the size is unsuitable for a desired finger. Please note that this will leave an unfinished end that may have a tendency to unravel, and we recommend applying the unfinished end so that it points inwards toward the centre of your hand.
Why Do I Need a Pack of Five?
Due to the materials of this splint, it may lose its elastication and durability if washed. That's why we offer this splint in a pack of five, allowing you to re-apply the splint as needed for extended periods of wear.
What is This Support Made From?
This support is made from elasticated cotton that conforms to your finger, allowing it to remain comfortable while providing light compression. The elasticated material makes the splint exceptionally easy to apply, and ensures that the majority of sizes will be suitable for most individuals.
Is This Splint Suitable for Children?
The Extra Small and XX-Small sizes of this support are designed for children. While they are listed as children's sizes, they may also be suitable for smaller or more slender adults.
Are There Other Splints Available?
While the Bedford Splint is highly versatile and suitable for most mild finger injuries, there are many specific or more severe injuries that will require a different type of splint. If you think you require a different type of splint, you'll find it in our extensive Finger Splint Range.
Is This a 'Buddy Splint'?
You may have heard the term 'buddy splint' used to describe splint two fingers together, and yes, this splint operates via the same principle. By using your healthy finger as a splint, your injured finger will receive the support it needs, and both fingers will be slightly immobilised to allow the healing process to take place.
Can I Buy a Larger Bulk Pack?
To purchase these splints at the best value possible, they are also available in a pack of 25. This is ideal for businesses that may require many splints on hand for first aid, such as offices, care homes or schools.
